Private Collection (first purchase)

I have just begun to start collecting my first works of art last September 2008. The journey began from my father's interest in art wherein he took me along to galleries and exhibits to look at paintings, sculptures and etc. We went to numerous and countless events and looked at countless pieces of art but among all of the paintings that I have seen in those galleries and exhibits, one thing caught my eye and these were nude sketches.

As i saw these sketches hanging on the wall, they left me with a brave yet subtle impression. Brave because there are only a few artists who really exposed nude works (at home or in galleries), specially here in the Philippines where the social setting is conservative. So like the paintings, i took a chance of buying a few pieces for my own personal collection.

The artist who made these paintings is Mr. Cris Cruz, a renowned Filipino master artist. His artworks are often found in UP Diliman where it is exhibited and sold for the support of younger artists and arts in the Philippines.

I hope you enjoy these paintings as much as i have enjoyed purchasing them and hanging them on my wall.

The Philippine Art Scene

The Philippines which is composed of more than 7000 islands has a very rich culture and heritage starting from it's tribal roots, Chinese and Malay influences, Spanish occupancy in 1565, Americanization in 1898 and up until the present day. There is no real identity of the what the Filipino is or who we are because of these influences but one thing captures the Filipino essence, and this is Filipino art.

Filipino artists through their artworks have played their role in portraying the lives of Filipinos through art forms of different mediums. Much like the Filipino heritage, these artists have infused their skills with different cultures to give identity to the nation's people.

This blog gives credit to those artists for their works of art and have dedicated their lives to harness their skills to be able to capture and preserve moments in our countries rich history.

Much of the artworks that you will see in this blog are from my private collection and will focus on the artists that have paved the way to the present Philippine art scene.
